Process
There are three parts to your task before you can create and present your new species to the world.
First - Research the life cycle of two other insects.
Second - Create the life cycle for your new species.
Third - Write a one page news article to introduce your new insect species to the world.
Research
Click on each link to explore the life cycle of each insect.
Write down notes about each stage and draw an illustration of the stage in your guidebook.
Butterfly
Ladybug
Bee
Mealworm
Create a New Species
Next, Using the information that you have gathered from the two different life cycles that you have studied, it is time to begin creating your species.
Once you have determined what each of the stages in the life cycle will be, you need to then create a life cycle chart. (Use the life cycle chart that has been provided for you.)
You must included detailed drawings of each stage and label what each stage is (egg, larva, pupa, adult, etc.)
Since you will be creating a new insect from two different species, make sure your adult has looks and/or qualities that represent both species.
News Article
Now that you have created your species and its life cycle you need to prepare to introduce your new species to the media. You will type the news article using Word.
Your ONE PAGE NEWS ARTICLE should have the following information:
Name of the new insect
Description of its life cycle- including all stages
Details about the habitat (where does it live and why?)
Details about what the insect will eat
Special characteristics or really amazing things about the new insect
Remember to watch your grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation when you are writing your news article.
